20 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | JANUARY 2018 Trendsetters/ Runway Report D oes anybody want his or her creations to be described as vanilla, middling or passable? The short answer is no. So how might you do a quick and easy, on-the-fl y, about-face with a safe hairstyle? Why, you'd put a serious sideways slant on it! Sideways hairstyles start with splits that sink low, like the ear-adjacent parting seen at JW Anderson. Bonus points for styles where hair pitches from the left and swerves to the right (or vice versa) across the forehead, like the peaks and valleys bangs at Bottega Veneta. What looks like a triangular slice taken from a kinky afro at Anna Sui proves that an off-center parting, when amplifi ed by sky-high texture, is more interesting visually than an equidistant divide. Even a single curl that traverses from one side of the face to the other (as seen at Antonio Marras) commands more attention than several coils born out of central-parted casting. How to get in on the sideways trend, then? Take your client's parting to the edge (left or right), and style the lengths however she desires. This little sideways switcheroo is truly a fresh slant on your artistry. Picking extreme sides means anything but playing it safe when it comes to styling. —KLF ANDREEA ANGELESCU Slant Evidence BOTTEGA VENETA JW ANDERSON GIORGIO ARMANI ANNA SUI ANTONIO MARRAS VERSUS
