16 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | JANUARY 2018 TREND S ETTER S Runway Report Tiny tweaks in Libertine's long-established hairstyle net the show's antiestablishment punk gal some serious style points. —KARIE L. FROST T he Libertine girl has long been established as a little punk, extremely cool, and completely devil-may- care. Not much has changed this season—it's always intentionally disheveled hair and a severe smoky eye—but some details are tweaked. For instance, the girl still retains that punk attitude she's always had, but now she's a little bit more refi ned. "She's more Upper East Side; she looks after herself," says Evo hair lead Kenna, adding that this time around there's a "Romanian gypsy meets punk" vibe (@evohair). That reads as hair made slightly rough by spritzing Evo Salty Dog Cocktail Beach Spray on dry strands coupled with a deep side part and swooped bangs that he tucks behind the ear. "I don't want the hair matted," he remarks of the product's ability to texturize without dulling. "I also don't want the hairstyle to look too uniform because then it looks too 'done.' There should be no exact parting. It should be loose." To make the side-swept bang come straight down over the forehead and then swivel over, Kenna uses an Evo Spike Pin Bristle Brush to create the necessary bend. "Just hit the hair with cold air from your blowdryer to set that bend," he explains. After "working the bend up" by tucking the bang's lengths behind the ear, Kenna pulls a wig cap that he's cut a hole in over the model's head, securing it around the neck. "I'm not taking this off; it will be hidden under coats and collars," he assures (though, they appear to come off before the models hit the runway). What's it for? "A tight, fl at silhouette," Kenna notes. "It really helps!" Attitude Adjustment P "We're always inspired by punk, but it's more an attitude than a style," says Evo hair lead Kenna.
