CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT: DANIEL COCHRAN; MARIA VALENTINO; DANIEL COCHRAN 26 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | DECEMBER 2017 Trendsetters/ Runway Report W ith a collection that traffi cs heavily in roses and denim, and is in fact inspired by the 1975 book American Denim, the decision to base the accompanying hairstyles on a beloved spaghetti Western makes absolute sense. At Adam Selman's fall/winter 2017 show, the Clint Eastwood-fronted The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is the Western movie muse for the hair, which Amika (@love_amika) hair lead James Pecis says is meant to "look like [the girls] are traveling through the desert." Perhaps the whisper-thin "wispies" that frame the models' faces and trickle down their necks speak to high-plains drifting via horseback, but the rest of the style, an asymmetrical roll, seems more suited for city streets—not saloons. Pecis begins to bring this 'do to life with an ample application of Amika Bombshell Blowout Spray throughout the entire head, which he then dries with the Immortal Power-Life Dryer. To bring about lax texture, Pecis creates relaxed curls with the 32mm Tourmaline Curler followed by a few mists of Un.Done Texture Spray to increase grip. He then loosely gathers hair into a high ponytail and situates its base smack dab above the right eye. The tail lengths undergo backcombing and a few shots of Touchable Hairspray before being rolled and pinned. Any wisps that have escaped from the bun are allowed to hang, imparting a slipshod appeal. A spaghetti Western plays a key role in the backstory of the off- kilter style at Adam Selman. —KLF The Wild, Wild West All Good The Western fi lm The Good, the Bad and the Ugly inspires the hairstyles. Hero Product Amika Touchable Hairspray secures the fl ossy asymmetrical bun.
