100 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | DECEMBER 2017 News As the year draws to a close, it's fun to look back on the hair trends that dominated. Thinking about the diverse clientele at my salon in Brooklyn, NY, three trends immediately come to mind: HEALTHY FASHION HAIRCOLOR. I admit I was one of those stylists who thought fashion color would come and go. But we're a couple years in, and these shades remain in demand and continue to evolve. It's essential to prelighten the hair to provide these colors, and lightener is lightener—you can only push it so far! But this year, the emergence of hair bonders, like Matrix Bond Ultim8, has changed everything. With bonders, you don't wait for damage to happen; you launch a preemptive strike on repair. I add Bond Ultim8 to every formula, I've retrained my clients to expect it, and I also use it as a stand- alone add-on to protect hair integrity. It has given me so much freedom to explore fashion color with my guests. ECO-CONSCIOUS STYLING. In my Brooklyn neighborhood, people are hyper-aware of the environment and of what they put in and on their bodies. Yet they're also style-conscious, and they appreciate hair that looks great. A new natural origin ingredient styling range, Biolage R.A.W. Styling, has bridged those two attitudes perfectly. I love the Biolage R.A.W. Styling Smoothing Milk because I can use a small amount for fi ne hair, or layer it onto coarser hair before my blowouts. It contains oats and honey to control the hair without greasiness. And I always reach for the Biolage R.A.W. Frizz Control Styling Spray with lavender to control fl yaways. Unlike serums or lotions, there is absolutely no weigh-down, but it's so effective for eliminating frizz. CELEBRATING NATURAL TEXTURE. This year was full of memorable images of gorgeous curls and waves, initiating requests for similar texture-friendly looks in salons. One of the best things to come along to support texture this year was the new Biolage 3Butter Control System. Developed for clients who expect products to control their hair, they contain shea, murumuru and cupuaçu butters. The latter two are harvested in Brazil, and the entire system of shampoo, conditioner, day cream and night cream truly speaks to the needs of textured clients who need mega amounts of control and moisture.
