98 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | DECEMBER 2017 News When the annual Intercoiffure (ICA) autumn symposium arrives, we know we're in for nonstop hair trends and insight from the best in the business. This year's Fall Atelier was held at the New York Hilton in October and featured classroom sessions, live runway performances and industry pros sharing innovative collections and business tips. Day one kicked off with an introduction by ICA president Frank Gambuzza, with highlights including presentations from Goldwell's Sharon Blain plus Wella Professionals' Stephen Moody and Sonya Dove, as well as a pinning ceremony where Gambuzza and Sunlights Balayage founder/ICA member chairman Candy Shaw welcomed ICA's 29 newest members and partners. The inaugural ICA-Keune Excellence in Hair Awards Photo Contest results were also announced, and in the evening guests attended a cocktail hour and a "Hair in Neverland"- themed gala sponsored by ghd, Keune, L'Oréal Professionnel, RevitaLash Cosmetics, Sunlights Balayage, Wella and more. On day two, the ICA Nouveau creative team (led by Perry Monge) presented Wabi-sabi, a collection inspired by Osaka, Japan, where Intercoiffure World Congress was held this year. Dove spoke about the importance of pros taking aspiring stylists under their wings, then along with Shaw and Nioxin's Diane Cole Stevens, she presented Gambuzza with the Spirit Award Scholarship in honor of the late Fabio Sementilli. Wrapping up the two-day soiree, ICA artistic director Van Council and the Van Michael artistic team presented their show-stopping Spellbound collection during the Aveda press luncheon. A beautiful time, indeed. —EMILIE BRANCH AND MOLLY CHURCH As Launchpad learned while attending Luxury Brand Partners' (LBP) Idealogue in NYC, a three-day exploration of social media, and the Coterie, a one-day workshop on women's "empowHerment," it's that there's no excuse not to turn likes into salon dollars. Best-selling author and "change agent" Seth Godin launched the event with his social currency discussion, which encouraged participants to focus on creating work that matters and the importance of knowing your audience. The event also marked the kickoff of LBP's Social Media Magic class, which gives artists the tools they need to grow their social presence online. Other notable speakers included Ursula Stephen, stylist to Rihanna and Kerry Washington; Jenny Strebe, founder of The Confessions of a Hairstylist; Johnny Wright, educator and Michelle Obama's mane man; and Julius "Caesar" Arriola, Wahl education and artistic team member. 1 Wella Professionals global education dean Stephen Moody 2 A model from Moody's TripleCraft presentation. 3 ICA president Frank Gambuzza is presented with the Spirit Award Scholarship. 4 A model from Sharon Blain's presentation. 5 Candy Shaw, Tina Black and Gambuzza at the new members ceremony. 1 2 3 4 5 TOP LEFT: POPFIZZ || BRYAN ALLEN; BOTTOM: COURTESY OF LUXURY BRAND PARTNERS Autumnal Affair BIG IDEAS Luxury Brand Partners president and CEO Tev Finger
