Hot Tools 5 /8" 24K Gold Curling Iron @hottoolspro Comb is comprised of 100 percent rust- resistant stainless steel pins that prevent bending, scratching the scalp or breaking hairs while teasing. Jatai Teasing Pin Comb @jataifeather • When working with natural curls, once tendrils are diffused, add dimension by taking a styling iron smaller than the natural ringlet and wrap the hair around the open barrel, then lightly stretch the curl as it cools. This will add defi nition, interest and polish to the texture. • To create beachy waves, wait until hair is about 80 percent dry. Then utilize a round brush by taking 1-inch horizontal sections. Beginning at the base, dry hair following the cuticle to ensure smoothness, then drag and rotate the brush clockwise. Continue to dry hair and rotate the round brush until you reach the ends. Use a light texture paste to separate the waves. • Create glamorous waves by taking a 1- to 1 ½-inch section and form a pin curl. Hold the pin curl at the base and lightly tap a fl at iron over it. Allow the pin curl to cool and release. Use a fi nishing brush to form the hair into your desired look. • For volume in fi ne hair, section strands at the parietal ridge and clip away. Take 2-inch subsections and create a 3 strand braid off the scalp. Tap a fl at iron over the braid and continue this process around the head, then remove braids once completely cooled. Use a wide-tooth comb to separate the hair and release the hair at the crown; style for the fi nished look. This is also a great technique to use when working with natural texture for added body and movement. • For a soft wave effect, take 1-inch partings and spritz strands with a light working hairspray. Using a fl at iron, place the iron at the base of the section and gradually feed the hair through the iron until you reach the ends. Continue this process and use a paddle brush to separate and mold soft waves. Darcy De Jidas, national artistic educator for The SALON by InStyle inside JCPenney, divulges tricks for achieving texture with tools.
