Always have a plan B. You can practice all you want, but realistically you never know what is going to happen or what may spark your creativity.Ó Marylle Koken NIRVANA My favorite era to work with is '80s grunge. That era is so raw and untamed. It broke all the rules of its time. Grunge was original and involved so many things that didn't always make sense, but still pulled people in. People just didn't give a shit about what society dictated during that time. And that's how I've always approached my own creative work. TRENDSETTER A trend is something everyone follows that has already been done. I've never been one to look forward to trends. I look forward to evolving our own culture, our own madness and our own art. To me it's all about individuality. ARTIST'S RETREAT I like to retreat to my little studio during my down time. I like to make a cup of coffee and just get lost for a couple of hours. I don't always know what direction I'm going in; I let my mind and hands wander in my work. ALL TOGETHER I love traveling to ancient cities and walking the streets, feeling the vibrancy and energy the cities radiate. Each place is unique, but it's also interesting to fi nd what each city has in common, too. Koken fi nds inspiration from cities around the world.
