W hen I was reviewing the fall/winter runways for the biggest beauty trends, I came to an interesting conclusion—literally every type of hairstyle hit the catwalk at some point this season, from bowl cuts (seen on models such as Catherine McNeil, who got her hair chopped by Redken's Guido) to braids (seen at the Valentino presentation). I never cease to be amazed by the talented hairdressers behind these coif creations. They have a seemingly endless ability to take what is old, like the crimped tresses that were so popular a few decades ago, and reinvent them in a fresh way that's just as suitable for the high-fashion models seen at New York Fashion Week as they are for your everyday clients. Of course, this type of ingenuity extends to more than just catwalk coiffeurs. You are constantly responsible for retooling your client's preferred look in a way that's new, yet still caters to her established style tendencies; whether it's just slightly elongating her tight curls into looser ringlets for a more relaxed feel, or articulating to her that snipping just a few inches would turn the lob she's sported for the past year into an au courant bob. The potential you have to transform is endless. My hat is off to you! And if you're seeking runway hair inspo to integrate into your everyday styling, look no further than our biggest runway trends story ever (10 pages!). Flip to page 84 to see the top beauty looks. For this issue, in addition to presenting you with the latest intel from the runways, we've rounded up inspiring collections from leading hairdressers including the Aveda team (page 80), Damien Carney of Schwarzkopf Professional (page 78) and Sonya Dove from Wella Professionals (page 74). Also on this month's docket: If your clients are seeking a way to extend that breezy summertime feel (it's always tough to bid goodbye to the sunniest of seasons) you can answer their call with leading texture-makers for beach waves and beyond (page 64), or extend their blissful mood with aromatic (and therapeutic!) coconut- derived hair and skin goods (page 72). Are you ushering in autumn with a fresh style or color for yourself or a client? Tag @BeautyLaunchpad. We'll be featuring our favorite transformations on Instagram throughout the month! I, along with fellow Launchpad team members Jasmine Coreas and Lizzy Sherman, attended the North American Hairstyling Awards, held during the Cosmoprof show in Las Vegas. OH, THE PLACES WE GO! In NYC, our staff snagged an invite to witness Nick Arrojo's American Wave collection in action.
