98 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | SEPTEMBER 2017 Passion Project Matrix artistic director Dan Csicsai schools us on his More Than Balayage Programs of Passion class. Tell us about your class. My More Than Balayage class is focused on different painting methods, or strokes, for painting hair. I cover three different strokes for balayage, and I also cover three different strokes or blending modes for color melting. What do attendees learn from the class? Attendees learn how to properly blend balayage and the technique of color melting, as well as myriad approaches. I really push attendees to break away from the typical balayage painting we see all the time. What advice would you give for stylists considering a Passion class? With every Programs of Passion class you take, be prepared to broaden your horizons and gain a new perspective. You'll really sharpen your skills. To register for a class, visit matrixprofessional.com. Dan Csicsai Congrats to Michael F. Heines, the newly appointed president of ColorProof Evolved Color Care. We can't wait to see what he has in store for the innovative brand! Inspiration: Beauty truly is united, no matter the hair type or texture—what makes us unique is what makes us beautiful. Matt Swinney, L'ANZA global creative director, had diversity in mind when creating UNITED Part 2. "We wanted to showcase how beauty doesn't know one color; it knows all colors and textures," he says. Behind the collection's inspiration is a powerful message: "No matter who you are or what you do, the more we are united, the more we can achieve," Swinney explains. "The world of beauty is inclusive." HAIR: L'ANZA GLOBAL CREATIVE TEAM: MATT SWINNEY, LEAH FREEMAN, AMMON CARVER; ASSISTANT: GINA WATKINS; MAKEUP: PAUL INNIS; PHOTOGRAPHER: RICHARD MONSIEURS; MODELS (FYI): LETECIA (BLONDE/ROSE GOLD), BETHANY (VIOLET), NICOLLE (BRUNETTE WITH HIGHLIGHTS); COURTESY OF MANUFACTURERS Beauty Is…UNITED Part 2 by L'ANZA ‹ To achieve this curly style, twist locks into sections— one stationary and the other wrapping around the fi rst. Take a fi ne-tooth comb and marry the ends together to create a clean, defi ned coil. Continue throughout, and set. Make a ponytail at the crown, creating a rope twist by splitting strands into two equal sections. Fold the tip of the braid and tuck it under, securing about an inch back from the hairline for a dramatic 'do. A ½-inch Marcel curling iron was used on dry hair, keeping the natural curl pattern looking organic for pillowy and glossy tendrils. ‹ ‹ GET THE LOOK GET THE LOOK GET THE LOOK News
