W ith a collection heavy in weightlessness (think: sheer silk, fl uttering gauze and breathable cotton), the theme for Demoo Parkchoonmoo's show, "Airiness," seems quite literal. And while the hair could have followed suit with frothy waves or buoyant curls, Oribe (@oribe) hair lead Kien Hoang decides to travel a different path. Working more with the idea of purity, he goes minimalist chic with a "deconstructed but also formed half-chignon, half-low messy bun." To begin, Hoang creates a precise center part and applies Thick Dry Finishing Spray along both sides of the head. Meticulous directional slicking of the hair via a fl at backcombing technique lends a "lived-in" feel, as Hoang sees it. After gathering the lengths into a low ponytail and tying it with a 10-inch elastic chord, he whittles down any visual weight in the tail with Royal Blowout Heat Styling Spray and a fl at iron. Splitting the ponytail in two, Hoang twists the fi rst section into a half-chignon, secures it with the loose ends of the elastic and then drapes the second section over the chignon for added dimension, anchoring it with the remaining elastic. Strategic pinning helps Hoang mold the chignon-bun hybrid to fi t each model, but as soon as the pins are in, he begins pulling out strands and misting Dry Texturizing Spray throughout to continue that disheveled appeal. Anything else that breaks with the shape can—and should—fall as it may. "That's what we're looking for," he says. It may not be airy, but it looks breezy—the perfect style for a discerning minimalist.
