100 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | JUNE 2017 Sharing his Passion Matrix artistic director Daniel Roldan shares how he achieves the perfect cut in his Programs of Passion class, Advanced Cutting Techniques. Tell us about your class. The name of my class is Advanced Cutting Techniques. I teach how to cut on damp and dry hair, and dry cutting in the most organic way possible by using precise techniques to achieve the fi nal look. What have attendees learned from the class? Drying and styling the hair before cutting will give you instant gratifi cation. It's working smarter, not harder. What is your favorite part of teaching the class? The look of instant gratifi cation on the attendees' faces and how accomplished they feel after class is my favorite part of teaching. What is the main takeaway you would like students to leave the class with? I want them to have confi dence when they cut! What advice would you give for stylists considering a Passion class? Hairstylists are passionate and creative artists; this is the way to feed that passion, by learning new techniques to continue to evolve and grow. Daniel Roldan Wella Studios has unveiled its Master Styling Program, a new master seminar launch developed by signature studio artist Oliver Shortall. "The master program took a lot of thought, a lot of dreaming and quite a few glasses of wine to create," laughs Shortall. The four-day seminar follows Bridal Hair/Classic Styling and Standards of Long Hairdressing. Shortall introduced the program to a room full of stylists while giving a crash course of the seminar accompanied by a model presentation. What does it take to become a master stylist? Shortall explains: "It's the science behind styling. So with that, I am going to change stylists' way of thinking about styling." Shortall demonstrated various techniques that are taught during the four- day seminar, including the different types of setting (wet, dry and heat), how bonds work, how different products work with bonding, as well as mood boarding and reverse mood boarding. "The class isn't just for competition hairdressers or stylists who want to work in editorial," says Shortall. "This is for every hairdresser who wants to push themselves further past where they think they can go and be able to create beautiful work behind the chair, on set or in front of a camera."
