MAY 2017 | beautylaunchpad.com | 97 GETTING TO KNOW YOU Meet the industry's movers and shakers. Graham Fraser, CEO, AG Hair What are you most excited about in your new role? I am most excited about the opportunity to guide the AG brand during the next phase of our growth, and the opportunity to continue working very closely with our founders, John and Lotte Davis, to ensure that our collective vision for AG Hair continues to be brought to life in all that we do and all that we are as an organization. What makes a business successful? The way you treat your employees and the relationships you establish with customers and suppliers are critical to the success of any business. At AG, our employees really feel like family and our customers and suppliers feel like good friends. When you combine motivated people making great products with innovation and a desire to keep improving every day, you have a winning formula. What does the next year have in store for AG? It's going to be an amazing year for us, starting with the launch of our new natural category in July, featuring fi ve products with up to 98 percent naturally derived ingredients. We've combined a beautiful aesthetic with innovation and ingredients you can actually pronounce to create plant-based wellness for hair. We're also about to break ground on a new state-of-the-art, 70,000 square-foot facility that will allow us to keep pace with our expanding North American and international distribution as AG enters a new phase of exponential growth. How do you unwind? My Scottish upbringing gave me a passion for soccer; I still love to play and coach. Our family also enjoys traveling and we love exposing our two teenage children to new places and cultures around the world. Hailey Baldwin, international spokesperson, L'Oréal Professionnel What are you most excited about as the new face of L'Oréal Professionnel? I think L'Oréal Professionnel is an amazing brand that has represented a lot of strong, beautiful women for many decades and I'm thrilled to be a part of that. How many different hair colors have you had? Too many to count! I think that hair is one of the most important and fun accessories that you can wear. That's why I like to try new hairstyles and colors depending on my mood or an event I'm attending. Since I change so often, L'Oréal Professionnel Pro Fiber is my go-to restorative hair treatment. And lots of coconut oil! Which color was your favorite? I love to go for a blonde that reminds me of the blonde I had when I was a child. I feel that it's the most innocent and genuine hair look. What do you do when you're not working? I was a ballet dancer for 12 years. It's still a big part of my life. What's your go-to song? I love rap music! Joanne Berry, global director of education, Organic Male OM4 What are you most excited about in your new role? I'm most excited about the aspect of male grooming in general. I now have the opportunity to work exclusively with men. I have especially noticed the differences in male skin, having worked mostly with women before; they are so different in so many ways! Working with barbers also makes it interesting, and so many hotels are now bringing barbers into their world-class resorts. You're always learning something new in this industry, and working with men full-time in the spa and wellness realm is no exception. How has your experience up to this point helped prepare you for your new position? I will be celebrating 25 years as a beauty therapist this year and have worked in all aspects of the industry including cruise ships, resort spas, hotels, medi-spas and integrative health clinics. That being said, I've had access to all types of clientele, both men and women, working on them and educating them. Having boyfriends has also helped, as they have allowed me to experiment on their skin with all sorts of wonderful products. How do you make education exciting? Tell stories, jokes, bring real life into it. Never just read from the textbook or PowerPoint; ask your audience for their experiences to make it interactive. What do you think is the key to a great spa? People! The team, energy and attitude of everyone who works there and how they work together and collaborate, I feel, is what matters most. How do you relax? Swimming. When I travel, I always pack a bathing suit. What is your favorite comfort food? I grew up in the U.K and was introduced to Indian food at a very early age. That would be my main comfort food, along with crumpets! Ian Browning, creative artistic director/director of education, Truss Professional How has your experience up to this point helped prepare you for your new position? From the moment I began my career, I always surrounded myself with the best in the industry. I started in the late '90s with TONI&GUY;, working with the amazing Mascolo family. After that I joined Sexy Hair in 2001, working next to Michael O'Rourke and Rafe Hardy. It's these early experiences that led me into print work and show production. However, my true passion has always been to help inspire and teach hairdressers, so when I was afforded the opportunity to be the lead coach at Sexy Hair Academy, I jumped at the chance. Taking on that role led me into training, developing educators and creating educational curriculums. Traveling to more than 25 countries and working with hairdressers from around the world has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. It has made me realize the language of hair is universal, and that hairdressers are the strongest, most passionate people I have ever met. What trends are you most looking forward to? I have always been a believer that trends are just a progression of what has been happening in the past year mixed with history. I'm loving the classic natural shapes and coloring techniques that are very hot right now. But everything has some sort of twist, be it a funky, unnatural color or a classic long bob with a ripped-up fringe. The main attribute for me is classic, always-evolving MORE COURTESY OF MANUFACTURERS; GETTY IMAGES (2)
