92 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | MAY 2017 News Joi to the World! Joiful, a fresh app that connects professionals to consumers via an Uber-style system, is changing the beauty game— big time. And to celebrate its February launch, the brains behind the burgeoning brand threw an over-the-top soirée (co-sponsored by Launchpad!) in Santa Monica, California, for more than 500 fans, media and social infl uencers. Whitney Port, one of Joiful's biggest fans and the brand's celebrity ambassador, was on hand to celebrate the initial success of the new on- demand beauty and wellness app. "I've already used the Joiful app to get ready for events and meetings," enthuses Port. Four vignettes were designed for the event to underscore the various places that treatments may be offered: home, offi ce, hotel and even a man cave to highlight the popularity of men's grooming services. Capping the night's festivities? A fashion show where models done up by the Joiful network of professionals showcased how the hottest beauty looks complement the trendiest of outfi ts. "It was more than a party; it signifi ed the start of a beauty revolution," says Chad Law, VP of sales and marketing. "Joiful is changing the way people receive beauty treatments, and the response has been overwhelming." —ALYSON OSTERMAN-KERR SEBASTIAN MODELS: KAMALA KIRK; BOTTOM, RIGHT: IMAGE COURTESY OF LAURA ROCHA; COURTESY OF JOIFUL / Sometimes we don't even notice what makes our products so amazing, such as the formulation or creative packaging. However, leave it to Cosmoprof North America (CPNA) to make sure that when it comes to beauty, all credit is given when due. The new Beauty Innovation & Design Awards will honor the best of the best in creativity for packaging design, material and product formulation across all categories, including hair, nail, skin, color, personal care, fragrance and sustainability—even contract manufacturing. "CPNA is one of the most awarded shows that recognizes indie beauty brands, which notoriously innovate with their packaging and formulation," says Eric Z. Horn, trade show director for Cosmoprof North America. "As such, it was a natural evolution to provide a platform to recognize such creativity." BEAUTY BY DESIGN COMPETITIVE STREAK The competition was fi erce at this year's Sebastian Professional What's Next Awards (WNA) in Dallas, as the judges were faced with the diffi cult decision of choosing winners out of the nine incredibly talented fi nalists. This year's judging panel included industry icon Robert Lobetta and former WNA winners Gianpaolo Colombo and Damaris Earlewine. Participants were challenged to take their creativity to the next level by showcasing their unique style at the event, which also marked the fi fth anniversary of the What's Next Awards. The high-energy show included a sneak peek at the launch of the upcoming Twisted collection, along with Sebastian Professional top artists Omar Antonio, Anthony Cole, Marylle Koken and Diva Poulos presenting the RE-CHARGE S/S 2017 collection. The 2017 WNA winners were Sabrina Cayer (Affi liated Artist), Beverly Iwuala (Student), Luis Maldonado (People's Choice) and Laura Rocha (Professional). "Winning has proven to me that persistence, determination and truly being hungry for your craft will eventually start opening those doors," says Rocha, who won the Professional category. Each winner received a $1,000 cash prize, ghd styling tools, an editorial photo shoot and more. —KAMALA KIRK Laura Rocha's winning look for What's Next Awards in the Professional category!
