R ock-inspired goddesses traipsed down the catwalk at Versace's spring/summer 2017 show in Milan, where Redken (@redken5thave) global creative director Guido utilized layers to lend his straight-haired beauties some edge. "We actually cut some of the girls' hair to create bangs and additional layers," Guido says. "I think the layers add a rock 'n' roll, 1950s look." And since tapping texture has recently become de rigueur on runways, strands that are stick-straight nowadays seemingly deviate from the new normal. "It feels fresh again to see hair this ironed," Guido smiles. "When you take someone with curly hair and make it straight, you can show a different face, a different personality." And the personas of these smooth-haired models? Fierce! Or as they say in Italy, feroce! Rock and Awe s of Versace ' s GUIDO'S GUIDE TO GETTING THE LOOK 1 Create a clean center part. Use a spray bottle to dampen hair. 2 Squeeze a pea-size amount of Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry Express Treatment Primer Cream into palms and distribute evenly through hair to protect from thermal damage and shorten dry time. 3 Follow with a pea-size amount of Align 12 Protective Smoothing Lotion to promote smoothness and luster. 4 Begin blow-drying hair with a boar- bristle brush, placing the dryer close to the hairline. 5 After blow-drying each section, quickly place a hand on the area just exposed by heat, then smooth hair with a downward movement to help keep hair straight. 6 Use a fl at iron on all areas until completely straight, so the hair tightly frames the face. 7 Finish by administering a small amount of Forceful 23 Super Strength Hairspray onto hands and lightly smoothing over on top of the head to tame fl yaways.
