98 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | MAY 2017 News beauty. Women and men don't want to have the same look every day, so our job is to give them the tools to create multiple styles (and personalities) daily! What do you like to do when you're not working? I am a family man! Even though I might be traveling a lot or in my home offi ce, I'm starting to realize it's the quality, not the quantity of time that I spend with my family. If it's going to breakfast or an impromptu date night with my wife after a full day in the salon, or taking a walk, watching a movie or playing a game with my son, I realize every moment counts. It's my family who both drives and inspires me! Miss Pop, creative ambassador, CND What are you most excited about in your new role? I'm looking forward to continuing to push the nail art envelope with the support of CND, a brand that has an impressive history in creativity. I see my role as a challenge, to help nail art continue to grow both in design and by design. So, I suppose I'm most excited to paint nails! Isn't that what it's all about? How has your experience up to this point helped prepare you for your new position? I've spent my career thus far working to help defi ne nail art with fashion designers, magazine editors and people like me across social media who are passionate about this art form. It's been very exciting to be working in nail art during this renaissance. I'm looking forward to continuing to evolve nail art design so our styles grow and change like other art forms—music, fi lm, photography, fashion, etc. What inspires your ideas for nail art? I'm inspired by the moment. The best part about nail art is that it's not going to last forever. It's not a tattoo. It's a fun form of self-expression that can be indulgent yet also truly affordable. I'm really inspired by fashion, not just because of the patterns and colors, but also because it has the same time sensitivity and transformational possibility. What are the latest nail trends? My obsession with negative space nail art continues. I love it because it masks growth if you're wearing enhancements or chips if you're wearing polish. Plus, it can create nail art from a single shade. Bright colors, like primary red, yellow and blue, are really on-trend when mixed with black and white. Personally, I'm rekindling my love of all things pink, especially pink metallic. How do you give clients an out-of-this-world manicure? I listen to my clients. My worst nightmare is when they tell me to do whatever I want and say they like everything. I can paint everything, but they have to wear it or it has to go with their fashion story. I prepare for all different clients, even the wishy- washy ones, by painting samples. I'll sit in my studio and just work out ideas with press-ons. Then, I keep those samples out on display to start the conversation. When it's time to paint, we have a jumping-off point for me to start asking the questions to hone in on what exactly I should create for them. What do you do to unwind? I travel a lot, mostly for business, but I always fi nd the pleasure in it too. In the past four months, I have been to 10 different cities, from Milan to Miami. In every city, I make a point of visiting a museum or fi nding street art. I love seeing the work of other artists. It's inspiring, it's invigorating, it's unifying.
