88 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | APRIL 2017 News Most of our bridal clients are so sweet and excited about the biggest day in their lives. So of course we want to do everything we can to make sure they walk down the aisle wearing the hair of their dreams. Here's some of my best advice as you gear up for wedding season! Storyboard the concepts. Ask your client to put together a board of hairstyles she likes. She can pull pictures from Pinterest, your salon website, your Instagram page, etc. Once the board is complete, sit down with her and "cut and paste," meaning pull the best elements from different photos—a fringe here, a side section there. Once you've put together the elements, start experimenting with the look on her hair. "Up" isn't everything. Not all bridal styles have to be updos. If a bride's daily style is loose hair, consider doing a loose style pulled off the face, off to the side, or partially up. Record everything. Once you and your client have settled on the look, photograph it from every angle to help you recreate it on the day of the wedding. Schedule wisely. I advise my brides to do their hair trial on the same day as a dress fi tting so they can see how the hair and gown look together. Keep things loose(ish). The trend in upstyles is a shape that's tight on the sides with top and back sections that are more disrupted. To achieve these looks, divide the hair front and back. Gather the back into the ponytail where the fi nished shape will be. Then, with a three-inch hairpin, pull out random pieces above the rubber band. Go higher and lower so the hair isn't pulled out from a single plane on the head. Release the top section and use a one-inch curling iron or wand off the base to create sexy, romantic waves. Draw these sections back into the ponytail or bun and secure by weaving in a three-inch hairpin. This will allow you to "rough in" the shape before locking it in. Once you've made adjustments, swap out the three- inch hairpins for regular hairpins. Choose the right spray. I always use a fl exible hairspray like Matrix Style Link Volume Fixer when I'm building a style. Once I'm completely satisfi ed, I'll lock it in place with a fi rm-hold formula like Style Link Style Fixer.
