APRIL 2017 | beautylaunchpad.com | 91 Terri Adams, Director of Business Development, SureTint What are you most excited about in your new role? I am very excited to be working on the technology side of color. Having spent most of my career working with hair color education and development, it is really fun and exciting to be working on the software technology side. I wish I had SureTint's Mia "My Intelligent Assistant" available to me when I was working with clients full time. It would have saved me on many occasions! Do you have any advice for stylists looking to start a business? Opening a salon is a big jump and is not for the faint of heart. Find a mentor within the industry that you can look to for answers as you start and grow your business. Be sure to put tools in place to help you monitor your business as it grows for both point of sale and the back end (dispensary) of the salon. What do you think is the future of hair color? From the tech side of things, I believe the possibilities are endless. Who knows, maybe formulating a new color will be as easy as taking a picture of the desired color, loading in some relevant information, such as base color and percentage of gray, and a system will be able to pop out the perfect formula for you. How do you unwind? My daughter is a huge movie and theater buff, so we escape to the theater on a regular basis. Also, nothing helps to relax and clear the mind more than to spend time with friends, talking and laughing. GETTING TO KNOW YOU Meet the industry's movers and shakers. Abbie Porche, Director of Sales, Aloxxi What are you most excited about in your new role? At Aloxxi, the core values are fashion, food, fun and family! I am most excited about working with a team that lives by these values. How has your experience up to this point helped prepare you for your new position? Having worked behind the chair, as a sales consultant, in regional manufacturing sales and directing sales teams both in distribution and manufacturing, I feel I worked my way through the ranks. The consequences of success and failure have given me the wisdom to understand how each facet of our business works. What is the key to making a sale? Understanding that all people buy for different reasons—whether it is out of necessity, emotion, impulsiveness, having to be fi rst, wanting to belong, etc. I believe the key is offering the "why." When you fi nd likeminded individuals with the same values, then connections are made and you've made the sale. Doing the right thing with the right people, for the right reasons, will build our brand. Name your favorite thing about the beauty industry. First and foremost, I love hairdressers. As wacky as we all may seem to outsiders, we are a breed that will always be there for one another. This is a very giving industry that serves generously every day without fail. The undying fact that will never change about our industry is and always will be: People fi rst! What's your feel-good song? "Hold Us Together" by Matt Maher.
