"Bovril is as British as fi sh and chips, but maybe not quite as tasty—depends if you like drinking watery gravy!" laughs Colin McAndrew, managing director at Medusa Salon in Edinburgh, Scotland, of the all-but-unknown-in-America namesake of his compilation, Bovril Babes. The beverage, a hot drink made from beef extract, is not actually his muse, however. "I was inspired by a collection of the same name published in The Face magazine in 1994. The Face was a supremely hip fashion and music magazine, and the original Bovril Babes refl ected everything it stood for," he explains. "[The collection] was stunning, haunting me for more than 20 years. Finally, in 2016, I decided to use it loosely as a source of inspiration for my own collection, and Medusa's Bovril Babes was born." McAndrew and the Medusa team focused on making each look beautiful and wearable, but with an edge, and used a wide range of techniques to showcase their full battery of skills: strong cuts, rich color and superb dressing. To summon the lush red locks seen here, "I prepped the hair with Wella Professionals EIMI Perfect Setting spray, then styled it with barrel tongs," details McAndrew. "After setting the hair, I brushed it out to create long, fl owing waves with a raw fi nish." If this is Bovril, we'll have another helping. As British as COLIN MCANDREW CONJURES STREET-CRED GLAMOUR WHILE KEEPING IT WEARABLE IN HIS LATEST COLLECTION. —ANGIE REIBER BOVRIL
