AU NATUREL Though we've all changed our hair texture before (even if only for a day), the way our hair grows naturally is often its most beautiful, and Denman agrees. That's why the brand proudly served as a sponsor for the Armed Forces Natural Hair and Health Expo, which offers workshops for female veterans on how to care for and love their natural hair. Expo attendees were treated to a limited edition D3 Styling Brush "Love Your Denman"—complete with an American fl ag on the handle. The event was created by Luvina Sabree, who knows fi rsthand how diffi cult it can be to fi nd products for natural hair, and maintain your best-looking locks while in the military. Sabree's goal is not only to continue to educate the community on this very personal issue, but also to send products for natural hair to those overseas. The brand has named Dateline Imports, headquartered in Sydney, as its offi cial distributor. Candy Shaw, creator of Sunlights, celebrity stylist, educator and salon owner, predicts that it's only a matter of time before balayage replaces foils, becoming the premier coloring technique around the world. "It's inevitable," she says, "since balayage is faster, more profi table, 'greener' and more fun than traditional foil highlights. Balayage is what every woman wants—natural-looking, sun-kissed highlights that make it look as though she's summered on the Gold Coast." The land down under was top of Shaw's mind, as she explained the expansion: "We're thrilled to join forces with Dateline Imports and advance the balayage revolution in Australia and New Zealand!" Candy Shaw In Memoriam: Fred Piattoni Sadly, we say goodbye to an extraordinary man who devoted his life to our industry and to those closest to him. Fred Piattoni was instrumental in Cosmetologists Chicago (CC), having served as the executive director/show manager and president of the organization. Piattoni will live on through his wife, children, grandchildren and the 15,000 members of the CC, an organization that he helped form. He was 90 years old at the time of his passing. Just Keep Growing Sport Clips Haircuts is feeling the power of its own momentum, having opened 100 stores in a short time—the franchise now clocks 1600 stores under its belt. Stores 15 e just minutes from each other on the East Coast, which is telling of just how in demand Sport Clips has become. Founder and CEO Gordon Logan affi rmed the importance of the core values behind the go- to guys' salon amid the ever-growing expansion.
