This was the goal originally conceived by Founder Leo Passage in 1962, to which the company has remained committed. But the company has also expanded upon that original paradigm. Case in point: For the past two years, the group has sponsored the Beauty Changes Lives (BCL) events held during America's Beauty Show in Chicago. The 2015 fete took place at the Art Institute of Chicago, but this year went even bigger and better with multi-level, multi-audience parties at Soldier Field, home of the Windy City's Bears football team. Hundreds of salon pros—including experts from American Crew, CND, Matrix, Mizani, Redken, TIGI and Wella Professionals—were charged to shout their own involvement in changing lives through beauty in anticipation of Shout Your Beauty! Week, which takes place August 1-7. During that time, Pivot Point pledges to donate one dollar for every snap on social media tagged with #SHOUTYOURBEAUTY (shoutyourbeauty.com) to the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation. "My goal in creating the Shout Your Beauty! concept was to stir conversation, be enticing—even if someone didn't attend our gala—and include a powerful call to action for the industry," explains Iman Johnson, Pivot Point Senior Communications Manager. "The millennial generation is active in social campaigns, so we wanted to work within this social space to create a rich and powerful dialogue for the industry to SHOUT!" All such endeavors keep in line with the philosophy fi rst envisioned by Passage, to help propel beauty careers forward. "Developing individuals and their creativity is at the core of everything Pivot Point does, including BCL, but especially in cosmetology education," emphasizes Global VP of Marketing Kevin Cameron. Over the years, Pivot Point has produced some of the industry's fi nest stylists and imagery. POINT OF DIFFERENCE Before stylists can consider how to fashion fi erce tress designs, they must fi rst understand why such innovations are important. So say Pivot Point educators, which is why they developed the Salonability Cut & Color program. Each course includes eight step-by-step workshops featuring advanced snipping and dyeing how-tos. Students are fi rst walked through a complete consultation, gaining insight into a client's personality, hair type and lifestyle preferences. Only once personal revelations are gleaned should a hairdresser recommend the cut, color and techniques specifi cally suited for said head.
