124 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | JULY 2016 News GETTING TO KNOW YOU Meet the industry's movers and shakers. Kiley Potter, Artistic Director, FHI Brands What are you most excited about in your new role? To be able to help grow the entire team and inspire others along the way! How has your experience up to this point helped prepare you for your new position? I think it's important to always be open to everything, and I try my best to stick to that. Everyone has a different way of doing things; there's always something new to learn, so that mind-set has really helped prepare me to share with others. What's your favorite hairstyle to create? Textured, undone beach waves. What song perks you up when you're having a bad day? I listen to a wide variety of music, so anything upbeat. What's your worst hair misadventure? I once tried dying my hair brunette; I'm defi nitely more suited for lighter hair color! Rachael Hoffman, Vice President, Marketing and Brand Development, Keune What are you most excited about in your new role? I couldn't be more excited to have an impact on the growth, awareness and corporate culture of this family-run, heritage brand. It's a thrilling time to arrive at Keune, with several launches up our sleeves this year that will change not only the way we educate, apply product and service clients, but also strike a better balance between our color-strong brand and our incredible retail lines. How has your experience up to this point helped prepare you for your new position? I've always been a "Jill of All Trades," with the fl exibility to wear many hats. This experience has given me the foundation needed to balance all the moving parts that come with my new demanding role. What inspires you? Inspiration appears in many forms from nature, innovation and technology. Women thought-leaders like Sheryl Sandberg and Brené Brown inspire and motivate me. Plus, a week isn't complete without NPR's "Corner Offi ce" podcast and "Fast Company" articles. Do you have any advice for stylists who would like to get involved in the business of beauty? First and foremost, become an expert by listening and doing your homework. Know your consumer and the needs and challenges of the other sides of the industry by speaking with the salesperson, distributor and manufacturer. Also, positivity goes a long way—show your active support for the brands and colleagues you believe in on social media. Self-promote with the great things you're doing in the industry and grow your following and, consequently, your voice. What makes you happy? My family, especially my husband Cliff and the magic in our three-year-old daughter Cyla. Second to that: outdoor adventures, shoes, chocolate and champagne (one of life's necessities!).
