116 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | JUNE 2016 News ON THE EDGE This month, we check in with Matrix Artistic Director Franco Della Grazia to get the inside scoop on his September Razor's Edge Programs of Passion class. For more information on Franco's class and any other Program of Passion course, visit education/programsofpassion. Tell us about your class. My Razor's Edge class has been really popular all over the U.S., from coast to coast. One of the reasons for its popularity is that stylists are hungry for education and Matrix fi lls that void. Razor cutting is not new—we were cutting hair with razors before scissors were created—but there is an art form to cutting with a razor. It's not about removing bulk, it's about creating texture. My class takes you through the do's and don'ts of using a razor. What have attendees learned from the class? The attendees walk away feeling empowered and have a better understanding of how to cut with a razor, when to use a razor and why to choose a razor. What is your favorite part of teaching the class? I love when the students "get it." It's a great feeling teaching stylists and giving them something they can take back to the salon and use in their day-to-day routine. What is the main takeaway you would like students to leave the class with? I want to give stylists the tools to better themselves and to be professional, and give them education that will allow them to offer more to their clients. In the end, this will give them a better lifestyle, professionally and personally—it's about empowerment. What are classes you would like to teach in the future? My other Programs of Passion class that I am currently teaching is "Cut To Fade." It's a men's hairdressing class—it's not just about men's barbering. Men's hairdressing is more than just using clippers and shaving. My class takes students through men's razor, scissor and clipper work in just one day. It's about using the right tools to get the best results. Men's hairdressing is the fastest-growing market in the U.S. and hairdressers—not just barbers—need to have some of that pie. As an award- winning men's hairdresser, I want to share what I know with everyone who attends. What advice would you give to stylists considering a Passion class? Seek a class that, fi rst, you will enjoy and secondly, that is going to benefi t you professionally. Come with an open mind and ask as many questions as you can. HE'S THE MAN He's ba-ack! Following a short retirement, Farouk Shami, Founder of Farouk Systems, has returned as Chairman and CEO. Franco Della Grazia Farouk Shami
