h, the Islands. That mythical place where time slows down, drinks
appear from nowhere, steel drum beats fi ll the air and everyone
looks fabulous—even when it's actually freezing outside in
New York City. Welcome to the Tommy Hilfi ger Spring 2016 runway
presentation, which was inspired by the exclusive Caribbean island of
Mustique and even showcased a replica of the famous lagoon-encircled
Basil's Bar (which the models, including the Hadid sisters, skipped
through at the fi nale).
Since relaxation was top of mind, Wella Professionals Global Creative
Director Eugene Souleiman went for a relaxed look, simply working with the
hair's natural texture by just dampening it and
letting it air dry—no products used.
Yep, you read that right—no product
was used. Building upon the natural texture
movement that's been growing, each girl
walked down the catwalk sporting easygoing,
personal styles—no army of sleek-haired
20-somethings here! But there was one
unifying hair motif, according to Souleiman:
The only adornment done to the hair was
a little wrapped braid. "To give [the hair] a
s lightly bohemian feel, we've added a thin
braid that looks like the girls could have done
it on their own at the beach," he explains. "It's
cute and looks spontaneous."
At Tommy Hilfi ger's Spring show, Eugene Souleiman
shows how less is more. —AMY DODDS
