70 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | FEBRUARY 2019 News SCHOLARSHIPS CHANGE LIVES At the heart of being a great stylist is a strong education foundation. Enter Matrix cofounders Sydell Miller and the late Arnold Miller, who pledged their commitment to the future of haircare through the Arnold & Sydell Miller Family Foundation. The foundation sponsors an annual competition seasonally and is currently funding fi ve scholarships to be administered via the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation. This funding is part of a $1,000,000 gift originally announced in 2017. Thanks to the philanthropic haircare pioneers, three new scholarships have been added: The Sydell & Arnold Miller Family Art of Haircutting Student Scholarship specifi cally serves those who see the innovation behind every cut. Recipients of this scholarship receive a $5,000 award. To apply, applicants must submit a three- to fi ve-minute video that takes viewers through three different haircuts and offers an explanation of their creative process and passion. The Sydell & Arnold Miller Family Art of Hairdressing Student Scholarship recognizes hairdressing for special occasions—think proms, weddings and award ceremonies. The winner of this $5,000 scholarship will be chosen based on a three- to fi ve-minute video featuring three standout hair creations while explaining his or her vision and love for cutting. The Sydell & Arnold Miller Family Art of Hair Coloring Scholarship gives back to colorists. One winner will receive a $5,000 award based on his or her impressive three- to fi ve-minute video showing off three coloring techniques while sharing the inspiration behind the color. "Giving back to help others was always part of the way Arnie and I approached life and business," says Sydell. "Our family's legacy of paying success forward is continuing to shape the next generation of beauty leaders through these scholarships." Each scholarship is accepting applications through February 10, 2019. For more details visit Matrix cofounders Arnie and Sydell Miller. TUNE IN Looking for more Goldwell intel?
