POWERED BY MOROCCANOIL Moroccanoil's Kevin Hughes BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD CHATS WITH MOROCCANOIL ARTISTIC DIRECTOR KEVIN HUGHES, WHO SHARES WHAT MAKES THE BRAND'S EDUCATION STAND APART FROM THE PACK. What prompted you to join the Moroccanoil education team? When I joined Moroccanoil eight years ago we only had a few products in the line and I loved them! Then, after meeting the team along with brand cofounder Carmen Tal— who spoke about her vision—I was sold. What are your favorite classes to teach? I love Behind The Lens, which is taught at our Academy in New York City. I created this class because so many stylists were asking how I got into doing editorial work/celebrity styling. It's such an exciting class—the fi rst day focuses on learning all different types of styling techniques, and the second day centers around a professional photo shoot. Attendees work with agency models, wardrobe stylists, a photographer, and makeup artists. I've seen stylists' careers change after this class; it's really inspiring. I am also very excited about our new class in 2019, Complete Your Color, taught by myself and Briana Cisneros. Attendees will learn three new haircuts and three fresh color techniques. What makes Moroccanoil classes unique? The attention that each attendee receives. We offer small classes with two instructors, so they're very hands-on. One of the reviews we get most is how the instructors make sure everyone not only receives the information but also understands it; we don't just teach techniques and then leave attendees on their own. We make sure everyone can use these methods in their salon and can make them part of their day-to-day routines. Why should stylists opt to take classes through Moroccanoil? There is usually one common goal for stylists taking continuing education, and that is to learn something that will translate to income behind the chair. I think we have amazing content in our classes as well as incredible instructors—that makes all the difference when attendees are there to learn something that's outside of their comfort zone. It isn't always easy, but beautiful things happen when we keep an open mind and never stop learning.
