beautylaunchpad.com | OCTOBER 2018 | The Colorist 91 CLOCKWISE FROM TOP: COURTESY OF AFFINAGE AMERICA; COURTESY OF MALIBU C; COURTESY OF KENRA PROFESSIONAL; GETTY IMAGES BEACH BLONDE "Typically in the fall we see many clients wanting to go darker, but not today!" says ★ Malibu C artist Anthony Barnhill. "We wanted to embrace the warmth while adding more dimension and brightness." @malibucpro ROSE QUARTZ ★ Kenra Professional colorist Cassie Siskovic shares how to create this warm gem-inspired color that is flattering on everyone. @kenraprofessional Use lower developer and let it sit for the full 45 minutes to maintain integrity and curl pattern. TIP: 1 Root smudge with 6.46 30g. and 8.465 30g. with 90g. 10-vol. 2 Staying off the roots, create a heavy weave in a modifi ed 10-foil pattern, doubling up foils and leaving a section of natural between, for a total of 20 crown foils using Lite and 10-vol. at a 1:2 ratio. 3 Between foils, feather down the roots even further toward the beginning of the mid-shafts for increased depth. Process for 45 minutes at room temperature. 4 Shampoo with Mode Colourcare Shampoo, then towel-dry. 5 Using 50g. True Copper Hotshotz and 20g. b:Red Refresher, aggressively pull through the hair, working in until midway into the mid-shafts. 6 From the mid-shafts down, add 20g. Color Dynamics Mango Smoothie to the mix for a lighter, brighter yet still punchy effect through the ends. Process for 30 minutes, with the very ends pulled through during the last 10 minutes. DIMENSIONAL COPPER "Living in New England, there is no shortage of color inspiration come fall," says Heather Butterworth, ★ Affi nage America elite team member. "I wanted a copper that was heavily saturated, yet not dense and fl at—a copper with dimension that had more intensity in the roots and mid-sections that slowly softened just slightly toward the ends. The deeper roots remain on trend, but not just for blondes—gingers can have that kind of fun, too!" See above for her step-by-step, which was done on a client with a natural level 6. @affi nageamerica COLOR: • 10g. 8RoM + 20g. 9-vol. • 5g. 8RoM + 5g. Clear + 20g. 9- vol. 1 Pre-lighten using Simply Blonde Blue Powder Lightener + Simply Blonde 20-vol. 1 Prep hair with Malibu C Crystal Gel to remove mineral buildup. 2 Mix Oligo Professionnel Extra Blonde Lightener with Malibu C Concentr8 Colour Klay for a clay lightener that is perfect for painting. 3 To even out the tone after processing, mix Malibu C Concentr8 Colours in Primary Blue and Primary Red. Add that to two ounces of water and Crystal Gel to halt oxidation and pre-tone. 4 Gloss with Oligo Professionnel Calura Colour. (Foil design was focused on top and toward the face, and freehand painting enclosed in foils throughout the interior.) 2 Pre-tone using SV Rapid Toner for fi ve minutes on towel-dried hair at the shampoo bowl. 3 In large alternating subsections, apply the above formulas using Kenra Color.
