24 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | AUGUST 2018 Trendsetters/ Runway Report P erhaps to bring a glitter of hope into today's stressful times, makeup artists spangled nearly every facial feature on the spring/summer 2018 catwalks: lids, lashes, brows, cheekbones and lips—or any combination of the fi ve. Certainly, it seemed like no amount of fl ash was too garish. Not ones to pass up a good thing, backstage hairstylists jumped on the trend, assigning varying degrees of twinkle to tresses. The fl ickering fi nishes ran the gamut: Hairstylist Eugene Souleiman's thick strokes of shimmer lent lengths a stringy, tinsel-like effect at Maison Margiela; Saturn-inspired swirls at Thom Browne (another Souleiman creation) took on an interstellar glow thanks to strategic "dégradé" placement of holographic silver pixie dust over each "planetary ring"; and a laissez-hair sprinkling of bronze glitter over the crown allowed fl ecks to fall where they so brilliantly highlight the curvy waves at Ashish. The most restrained rendition of glitzed-up hair, a delicate row of rhinestones that studded deep side partings at Dries Van Noten, seems an approachable best bet for clients ready to undergo some hair glow—not to mention, one that's decidedly less messy than a cloud of glitter. ASHISH: IMAXTREE.COM; DRIES VAN NOTEN: ANDREEA ANGELESCU; MAISON MARGIELA: FRANCOIS GUILLOT/ GETTY IMAGES; THOM BROWNE: VICTOR VIRGILE/GAMMA-RAPHO All That Glitters ASHISH MAISON MARGIELA THOM BROWNE Strands mottled with glitter and crystals spark a radiant and oh-so-welcome escape from mane norms. —KLF DRIES VAN NOTEN
