20 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | AUGUST 2018 TREND S ETTER S Runway Report Strands undergo a desert-dusty makeover fi t for '70s supermodel Lauren Hutton. —KARIE L. FROST W hen Hellessy designer Sylvie Millstein envisions the woman who wears her clothing, she sees a free-spirited individual with a love for adventure. So, logic follows that the beauty muse is iconic supermodel "Lauren Hutton on a safari" with hair that strikes the balance of windswept meets chic. Label.m (@labelmusa) hair lead Matthew Curtis explains, "We want to mimic the relaxed feeling that comes through in the collection, but we also want to give the hair a bit of a dusty fi nish to play off the safari-esque idea." He preps hair with label.m Volume Mousse and then, using his hands, rumples the center parting with a quick back-and-forth motion to encourage a "loose, unstructured parting." Using an Olivia Garden Double Clip (@oliviagardenint), Curtis sections hair in order to begin an irregular- patterned Marcel wave, spraying the mid-shafts through the ends with label.m Hairspray to hold the loose waves. With tighter tongs, Curtis fi nesses the irregular coils around the face and roots, pulling and twisting the curls to keep them tight against the head. Several passes of label.m Sea Salt Spray lend the necessary texture and grit without compromising moisture. To fi nish, Curtis spritzes label.m Texturising Volume Spray through the ends. "This shouldn't look beachy," he adds. "It should appear more loose and windswept." Supermodel on Safari COURTESY OF LABEL.M To s Tighter detailing around the face helps keep the silhouette more compact.
