114 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | AUGUST 2018 News This fall, we'll still see plenty of progressive fashion color, but there are also some interesting changes. Many clients will be looking for more subdued effects, even if they're in the progressive color families like purple and blue. When working with Latina clients, no matter what the ultimate shade, the desire is to keep the tone on the cool side of the spectrum. Fortunately, the wide range of modern color formulas from Matrix make cool options more exciting than ever. Here are some trends to watch: Purple Continues to Reign Many of our clients who enjoyed purple fashion colors are ready to take them down a notch for fall. Thanks to the versatility of the new SOCOLOR Cult, that's entirely possible! Many of my clients are sporting highlights created with Cult's Lavender Macaron, a beautiful periwinkle shade. For an autumnal shift, we plan to use a deeper violet demipermanent to create a shadow root on these clients, then lowlight with the Lavender Macaron in a demi formula to infuse depth back into the hair. The existing lighter pieces can stay light or be softened with the lavender shade for an interplay of hues and tones, all in the purple family. Cool Caramel and Metallic Violet Highlights For more natural-looking color, Latina clients are always in the market for caramel highlights. But in these cases, language is important because a Caucasian's caramel highlight is not a Latina's caramel! As opposed to the warm golden yellow shade a Caucasian client sees in her mind's eye when you say caramel, a Latina sees a much cooler shade. My go-to caramel toner for Latinas, therefore, is two parts violet and one part gold, as opposed to the two parts gold and one part violet I use for Caucasian hair. Mint and Stonewash Denim Highlights Clients who want to keep their hair lighter in a fashionable way are requesting a few interesting highlight shades. Sweet Mint—a pastel from the Cult portfolio—is a popular choice, as is Stonewashed Denim—a dusty, blue/purple shade. Metallics from the Mixed Metals collection are also popular because they provide the cool, violet/mauve undertones that Latinas love. FALL ALL OVER Robert Santana, Matrix artistic director and Latin Expressions team leader, advises what Latina color clients will be clamoring for come fall. It is with tremendous sadness that we report the sudden and unexpected passing of Andrew Bartfi eld, VP and general manager of Celeb Luxury. Leland— founder, president and CEO of Celeb Luxury, as well as dear friend to Bartfi eld—has released the following statement via Facebook: ANDREW BARTFIELD: I LOVE YOU. It is with a saddened heart that I share the news that Andrew Bartfi eld unexpectedly passed away […]. My heart is broken for his family, friends and his loving fi ancé Trae. Andrew was my right hand, my best friend and like a kid brother to me. I have never known anyone more kind, caring, compassionate, generous, and patient than Andrew. Anyone who knew him would say the same. He made such an impact on so many. There are no words to express what his love and friendship meant to me. Andrew always found the good in situations and people. I am a better person today because of him. He touched my life in ways that I can never explain and for that I am forever grateful. To say this loss is devast ating is an immense understatement. There will never be another like him. I will honor his legacy by living each day as he would: with love, an open heart, and compassion. Andrew, thank you for over 30 years of friendship, memories and for always being there when I needed you. It's been an honor calling you my best friend and I will miss you with all my heart. Our thoughts go out to all of Bartfi eld's family, friends and colleagues. He will be greatly missed. In Memoriam: Andrew Bartfi eld COURTESY OF CELEB LUXURY
