78 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | JANUARY 2018 News Wahl Professional held its fi rst-ever online barber battle, with Benny Machado (@mr_executive_barber) being named the victor. Contestants had 15 minutes to create a video of their take on three versatile looks: the classic pompadour, bald fade and a creative cut. "An online battle has not been done by any other clipper company," says Aaron Flick, senior marketing associate, professional division, Wahl Clipper Corporation. "This was an opportunity to bring artists from across the country into one competition. And we received a lot of high-quality work from many talented artists." Machado's winning video was viewed thousands of times on Wahl's Instagram and Facebook pages. "I chose to participate in this battle because I have the desire to become an educator," said Machado, who wants to inspire others fi rst and foremost. As part of his prize, he will represent Wahl and enjoy the same privileges as a member of the team. BRAND NEW HUE Want to test out more than 75 haircolors without having to touch any bleach? Does this sound impossible? Thanks to Redken and the must-download app, YouCam Makeup, it's no longer a dream—you and your clients can test out any color in just a tap. With AR technology built into the app, and custom brush and erase tools that let users create details such as ombré or balayage, the lines between virtual and reality are blurred. Once your clients are willing to commit to their new look, the app sets them up with a stylist via Redken Salon Finder—and virtual becomes reality. "At Redken, we believe haircolor is the new makeup, and having a partnership with YouCam Makeup that allows consumers to test a new shade of haircolor like a new shade of lipstick is the ultimate in next-generation personal expression," says Darienne Kennedy, VP of integrated marketing communications at Redken. HI, MUMBAI Lydia Sarfati, CEO and founder of Repêchage, served as keynote speaker at Professional Beauty Mumbai, where she educated attendees on new treatments in spa and salon services, including the men's category and the expansion of skin care. In her presentation, "How to Make Skin Care Services Work for Your Salon," she spoke to the audience on how to incorporate skin-centric services into the salon, including cross-selling hair and skin treatments, and selling existing clients upgraded service options. #Batt le Me COURTESY OF MANUFACTURERS
