94 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | SEPTEMBER 2017 News —EMILIE BRANCH Crowning Achievement The Miss USA competition has changed quite a bit over the last 15 years, save one major constant: Farouk Systems. The company currently serves as the offi cial hair care sponsor for the trifecta of pageants, including Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA. The brand provides a team of hairstylists to beautify contestants from the preliminary competition to the dress rehearsal, before they fi nally debut to the nation during the live broadcast. In addition, each contestant is made to feel like a queen (regardless of crown), receiving a hair care service and the full CHI hair care line, so that she may look her best in front of millions. Farouk Shami, founder of Farouk Systems, notes, "This year's pageant had signifi cant meaning with an emphasis on empowering women. This year was also meaningful with several contestants being from our industry that included hairdressers and a makeup artist! As a community of professionals, we must take note of each contestant's accomplishments and implement them in our own daily lives for the hope of a better future for the United States and the world. We are proud to be a part of this journey." Karen Batley, USA marketing executive for Denman, and Julie Huddleston, export sales executive, are taking team building to a new level. Huddleston and Batley are trading in their beauty marketing skills and fl ying to Malawi to construct a vocational training center at the Tilinanu Orphanage. The center will allow those in the orphanage and in the local community to take classes in computer training, tailoring and joinery, instilling useful skills and empowering all. Their journey is backed by the Love Support Unite Foundation, as well as the Irish government—not to mention friends and family lending their encouragement. The Denman team has been actively volunteering in Malawi for more than 10 years. To donate to the cause, visit gofundme.com/karenandjulie. What does Sebastian Professional have in store? We can only imagine what to expect, now that Robert Lobetta has been named the brand's creative visionary. Lobetta will not only devote himself to the thought-proving demands of this trailblazing role, but he will also be responsible for seeking out and mentoring new talent in order to keep things fresh. Originally serving as creative director, Lobetta took a 10-year hiatus before returning to his roots, and is now stronger than ever. "I may have left the building, but my heart never left Sebastian," he says. "I am genuinely thrilled to be collaborating again with this legendary brand. My main motivation for this return is to help craft a new creative vision for the brand and to develop young talent that will carry the creative torch into the future." We're looking forward to the exciting years ahead! LOBETTA Sebastian Professional's Robert Lobetta LOOK OUT FOR COURTESY OF MANUFACTURERS
