START BY PINNING UP the top of the hair from the temple area and all around to the bottom of the parietal ridge to keep the cut organized. USE CLIPPERS or shear- over-comb technique to give a nice fade, or leave longer for a pixie effect around the bottom. At this point, decide if you'll want to add sideburns, wispy sideburns, or none. ONCE YOU HAVE THE UNDERCUT DONE, drop down the pinned-up hair and comb straight down all around using the top of the head as your center point. THIS NEXT STEP IS YOUR MONEYMAKER! Raise the hair slightly off the head at about 20 degrees, just enough to create a very slight beveling. Cut all around the head using the forehead (between the eyes), tops of ears and back bottom of the parietal ridge as your connecting points. Connect the dots! GO BACK AROUND the bowl's edge and clean up any stray hairs using shear-over- comb technique. At this point, add texture, remove weight or leave a stronger vibe. You can also stack from the back, from the fade to the weight line and keep a geometric but wispy side burn to maintain nice feminine details. START IN THE BACK nape area and use a short, fl uid skimming motion to remove the length while leaving a soft, tapered fi nish. As you drop each horizontal section, do not elevate hair. Continue to skim hair at the same one-length perimeter. CONTINUE TO THE SIDES with the skimming technique, this time slightly changing the direction of your blade as to promote the sides to fi t close to the face. FINISH THE HAIRCUT by holding the razor the way you would a pen, and begin pen cutting. Open spaces into the interior to expose movement in your bowl cut. APPLY A LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER to moisturize the hair, and then administer a light texturizing spray and layer a small amount of mousse. BLOW-DRY WITH A FLAT WRAP TECHNIQUE to create a nice fi nish. Continue by using a medium-size round brush only on the ends. TO ENHANCE CONTRAST of little volume at the root and strength and texture on the ends, run fi ngers through the hair with oil for a smooth fi nish. e '90s-style tomboy cut has returned, and everyone is putting their unique spin on it. On the runways at Lanvin, models' cuts featured soft edges, giving them a romantic and feminine feel. At Haider Ackermann, edges were blunt and bold—but sexy nonetheless. "Strong shape haircuts are back," says Omar Antonio, Sebastian Professional top stylist. "Now we want to celebrate strength by sporting a new clean, strong yet youthful bowl cut. I use a feather razor to create this look for a softer fi nish, and also much more versatility in styling this bowl cut in diff erent ways." Below, his tips for achieving a fashion-forward bowl cut.
