PORTFOLIO 78 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | SEPTEMBER 2017 HAIR AND PHOTOGRAPHY: DAMIEN CARNEY (DAMIENCARNEY.COM); MAKEUP: AYA KUDOMUA; WARDROBE STYLIST: MIA TUCKER WILLIAMS; PRODUCTS: SCHWARZKOPF PROFESSIONAL OSIS+ RANGE Oftentimes, the best ideas stem from the most unexpected of sources. In Motley Crew, the fresh collection from Schwarzkopf Professional creative director/North America Damien Carney, the hair artist originally set out to collaborate on a swimwear shoot alongside wardrobe stylist Mia Tucker Williams. But soon after, the two tired of simple styles—both in terms of hair and fashion—and proceeded to layer various elements into the model's overall aesthetic. The end result? A far cry from a basic bikini babe. "It's mix and un-match!" enthuses Carney of the fi nal looks. "The world of fashion is no longer about a few central trends; today, there are endless trends to pull from. As a hairdresser, that gives me lots of options to feed my creative soul." One model showcases disparate looks in Damien Carney's latest compilation. —AO motley crew too cool for school "For this style, I simply put the model's hair up in a high ponytail at the crown and secured it with a band, so all the hair is on top of the head," explains Damien Carney. "I lightly smoothed the hair with a brush and used my hands to place the movement—it was a one-shot hairstyle. I didn't want anything that looked too contrived, and I wanted to create something in a fl ash. I try not to overthink my looks. I go with the fl ow."
