48 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | SEPTEMBER 2017 A fter 26 years, celebrity stylists Philip Carreon (@philipcarreonstyle) and Robert Ramos (@robert ramosproducts) decided that it was time to redesign their legendary Estilo Salon, located on Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles' trendy Mid-City West neighborhood. "At RamosCarreon, we have a very modern approach to our work," says Carreon, who is also creative director for Eufora International. "The soul of our company lives in passion and creativity. It was time for the salon design and decor to represent the innovation and beauty that walks out of our doors every day." Combining both of their last names, the duo renamed the salon RamosCarreon and reopened their doors to the public in May. The 14-chair studio refl ects the super-clean, contemporary style of which Carreon and Ramos are fans, showcasing white minimalism with clean lines that function in a bright and energetic space. "We wanted to completely move away from our mid-century look that we created years ago to a super-sleek salon with dynamic light and energy fl ow," explains Carreon. Great lighting was essential, so Carreon and Ramos designed a light- Live & Learn/ Salon of the Month RamosCarreon Salon in Los Angeles fl aunts a fresh look where design and energy function seamlessly. —KAMALA KIRK SALON MISSION Cultivate individual talent, creativity and imagination with a focus on business through in-house mentoring and education THEME Ultra-modern and minimal EMPLOYEE PERKS 15 days per year of in-house education; retail program that pays stylists back with Ramos Carreon dollars, which they can use for personal/station retail or rent while on vacation. All walls except one key wall are white, and the cabinetry is white and trimmed in a textured bronze. "It was important that we had white countertops to bounce the light (like in photography) to the person in the chair," says Carreon. "This alone completely improves the energy of the clients' mood and self-perception." The fl oors, which receive the most comments from guests, feature a stain-resistant, synthetic pale gray wood that offers comfort and durability for long hours of standing. The retail area includes a range of Eufora products as well as Ramos' eponymous boutique hair care line. But despite all of the changes, the owners didn't want to completely erase the past—their elongated "Alice in Wonderland" mirrors survived the remodel, and now grace the styling stations with their majestic presence. "We have been Estilo Salon for 26 years and from day one we had these incredible mirrors," Carreon points out. "We found nothing as special so we kept them. When our guests sit in front of these it's entirely theirs, and they can't help but feel our focus is completely on them."
