It's no surprise then that Zeinstra's job is growing exponentially by the day. Men's grooming is virtually exploding across the globe with a decided emphasis on barbering skills, which means that clipper cutting has never been more important. Andis underscored that fact when its educational wing released Clipper Cutting 101 in 2016. And this year, the company offers Clipper Cutting 201. "Men's grooming is huge, with new companies popping up all over the place, so the challenge is to create classes and content that other people haven't," Zeinstra explains. Indeed, Clipper Cutting 201 features 107 pages of content and 20 haircuts, including men's facial hair looks and techniques. But the Andis educational strategy goes well beyond its materials. The company is developing a presence, with new teams being formed in both Latin America and Australia, expansion of the Spain team, ever-growing numbers of educators in both the U.S. and U.K., and crowd-pleasing presentations at trade shows. Accessibility for all is an overarching theme in Andis' educational strategy. The company is working to partner with non-competing companies to provide training in schools and distributing facilities. "This way, the end consumer gets a twofer!" Zeinstra points out. And to make sure that fi nances aren't an obstacle for up-and- coming stylists and barbers, Andis' above-mentioned books live on its website, offering free content along with numerous video tutorials to users who sign up online. With all these approaches, Zeinstra is making sure that education holds its place at the top of everyone's priority list. "I believe in stressing education over tools," she says. "If someone receives a good education from us, they're probably going to purchase our tools. And I'd rather them do it that way than purchase and use our tools without receiving the proper education." Smart! Andis education played a leading role at Premiere Orlando in Florida last June for the show's Men's Zone and Barbershop category, with three classes dedicated to the techniques that stylists and barbers need to keep clients satisfi ed. In addition to its popular Clipper Cutting 101, Andis honored the so-called "Euro-invasion" with a class featuring instruction on how to create 1950s looks with medium to long hair, and another class solely dedicated to perfecting bald fading techniques. "We make sure that our class titles stand out to help get people excited," notes Jessica Zeinstra. "We've also begun off ering separate classes in Spanish."
