50 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | JUNE 2017 Live & Learn/ Head of the Class Alcantar: Keep it simple. Take advantage of any opportunity to learn. Eschbach: Never give up. Put yourself where you want to be. Peach: Be kind and supportive of everyone. Share the love. Welsh: If you can dream it, you can do it. COURTESY OF ORIBE Oribe's fab four share their personal mantras and top tips. Fantastic Four A quartet of Oribe's fab female educators share common threads: a lust for life, learning and divulging their unique approaches through artful education. For some, the beauty bug bit them early in life; others inevitably slipped under the seductive spell of hair artistry. But whether they're crafting Fashion Week coifs, helming a salon, launching their own product lines or making waves on Instagram, each brings her own unique strengths to the table as part of Oribe's internationally acclaimed education team. Here, they share their stories. —TRACY MORIN Coby Alcantar, Director of Training and Content, Cutting A self-described "nerd" with a "silly personality," Alcantar chose the cutting path as an apprentice in the late '90s. Scissors and razors in tow, she brought her love of teaching to New York, performing platform work for Bumble and Bumble, then joined Oribe's education team in 2012 and opened Little Axe Salon in Brooklyn. "Oribe's aesthetic is classic, beautiful, sexy, chic, boudoir—but I enjoy adapting those techniques to anyone," Alcantar muses. "I don't live for the weekend; I live for every day, because I love what I do." Coby Alcantar (@cobywon) Nicci Welsh, Educator Welsh is an England-born, Denmark-based multihyphenate: educator, author, hairstylist, makeup artist and founder of an academy and makeup brush line. "My mother styled the neighbor's hair in our kitchen," she remembers. "I became hooked on the industry; I wanted to make people feel happy and look good." Seeking "a product line that could do everything" for her academy, she meshed with Oribe's top educators in Miami and joined the team, bringing her minimalistic Scandinavian aesthetic to session work. Ramona Eschbach, Educator Eschbach considered beauty school a "hobby" in 1996, but post-graduation, a whirlwind of success ensued: salon gigs in SoCal and NYC, the opportunity to offer styling and cutting education nationwide, assisting editorial stylists, and working Fashion Week. As a freelancer in Paris, she joined Oribe in 2011. "I was reluctant to get back into education," she admits, "but it's much more fulfi lling now. As a full-time editorial stylist who has worked in a salon (and still takes clients at home), I love bringing skills from the runway and shoots to hairdressers in salons." Ramona Eschbach (@ramoneyluv) Kelly Peach, Educator Inspired by her stylist mom, Peach started early—offering braid work as a fourth-grader. She went to college for elementary education but soon combined her two passions at beauty school. After serving clients in Michigan and Georgia, Peach sought editorial work in California and attended an Oribe workshop, where the educator tapped her skills for Paris Fashion Week. "I was like, 'Is this real life?'" laughs Peach, who is based in Portland, Oregon, and became an Oribe educator two years ago. "I'm always learning and seeking new inspiration to bring to the table—from both behind the chair and through editorial work."
