82 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | MAY 2017 The Opal Melt from Matrix's 2017 Holographic Color Melt collection is a holographic interpretation of the sky's changing colors, combining azure, rose, gold and emerald for a gem-like fi nish. Another Dimension One of the hottest techniques right now is holographic color melting. It's popular with clients because the soft gradation effect can be used on any hair color and avoids creating harsh lines, giving it a more natural appearance. A fun take on this popular trend is the mermaid color melt from the Matrix (@matrix) spring/summer 2017 Holographic Color Melt collection, created by artistic directors Chrystofer Benson, Danielle Keasling, Mila Belova and Dan Csicsai, along with the stylists they mentored: Francis Bouchard, Vitaliy Pimenov, Dennis Rombout and Victoria Yeremchuk. "For commercial adaptation, keep the tones and levels closer together," advises Benson, who points out that the looks from the collection can be customized for any salon client depending on their desired palette. "For progressive or avant-garde looks, explore disconnection, asymmetry and color levels that are further apart." Read on to learn more about these unique techniques that combine all the fun colors of the rainbow and are guaranteed to take your color game to another dimension. Stunning Siren Known as the Mermaid Melt, this look fades from a natural shadow root into a rosy violet, pool-toned blue and sparkling silver for a magical effect. "Denim blue hair color has been a hot topic lately," says Matrix (@matrixusa) artistic director Danielle Keasling. "I love the dimension and refl ection to it." Follow the steps below in order to achieve this stunning siren-worthy color. 1 Divide the hair into quadrants. Secure.
