MAY 2017 | beautylaunchpad.com | 77 When blonde and orange meet, the results are truly sensational. A mash-up of the two colors, blorange is this year's answer to rose gold. Celebs currently rocking this sweet, playful hue include the likes of Emma Roberts, Sophie Turner and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. "We have seen rose gold in all its many forms evolve over the last few years," says Ian Michael Black, Aveda (@aveda) global artistic director of hair color. "Its newest incarnation is a more rose copper tone. It's showing the start of the move away from cooler tones and toward women embracing warmth for their hair. This is really about creating the balance between blonde and copper; less orange and more peachy with a slight hint of pink to soften the look and give it a very feminine feel." Adds Catie Hansen, Affi nage (@affi nageamerica) North America education manager: "Blorange is a perfect combination of golden blonde with a rose/creamsicle type of fi nish to the look. This season's hottest color trend is moving away from the white ice looks with blonde and into the warm, inviting tones of spring and summer. What's more inspirational than the delicious, satisfying colors of our childhood summer favorites? These looks can be created utilizing semipermanent tones." Hot tip from Hansen: Create custom maintenance shades in Mason jars for clients to take home to maintain their color intensity and tone. "Add a label with instructions for use and send them on their way," Hansen advises. "This is a great add-on to your ticket price as well, and it's completely customized for each specifi c client. You can also utilize permanent and demi- permanent tones for longer lasting results." BLORANGE BLOSSOM Creamsicle Heaven CUSTOM COLOR "In most cases, you need to lift the hair fi rst and then color it to get the required brightness when doing blorange," advises Christine Thompson, owner and color director of Spoke & Weal salons. "Anyone who is already pretty blonde can get a version of this easily." When working on clients, she uses Aveda Full Spectrum Hair Color to achieve subtle tonal variations, which gives her control over the pure pigments and tones that are added. Bonus: The color is 100 percent oxidative, which makes it long lasting. Her favorite blorange formula is 40 grams universal 0N with 6 grams Aveda Deep Orange/Yellow pure tone + 2 grams of Aveda Full Spectrum Violet/Blue pure tone + 40 grams liquid activator applied to pre-lightened hair. Emma Roberts is a great example of a vivid blorange!
