114 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | MARCH 2017 News Ted Teaches Now you can learn from legendary stylist Ted Gibson without leaving your living room! The celebrity stylist has released a series of educational videos through Pivotshare, the online video platform. With an inside look into everything from Fashion Week, color and cutting to styling and dressing, the Ted Gibson Advanced Academy collection is sure to be not just informative, but eye-opening. "Being able to reach a larger audience through my advanced online education gives me the opportunity to elevate hairdressers around the globe," explains Gibson. "I believe education is how we feed our souls and our lives. Changing our consciousness allows us to move forward with the results that we breathe, desire and claim. Once you change your consciousness, you have the ability to change your career, your environment and your lifestyle." You can catch the videos, which also feature acclaimed members of Gibson's team, via monthly subscription at tedgibsonadvancedacademy.pivotshare.com. We caught up with Matrix celebrity hairstylist George Papanikolas to get the inside info on his balayage-focused Programs of Passion class. Balayage Ballyhoo Tell us about your class. The class teaches how to create my signature balayage look. What have attendees learned from the class? Colorists can use these techniques on almost any tone and texture; it's about strategic placement. I focus on three main areas: face frame, natural part and ends. It's what the client notices, and where you will get the most impact from each highlight. What is your favorite part of teaching the class? Showing how quick and easy creating beautiful color can be. My techniques are really fast, allowing colorists to maximize their days and time with clients. Another favorite is when the students tag photos of their work on social media and I am able to see what they learned! What is the main takeaway you would like students to leave the class with? Less is more. If you are going to do a zillion foils on the head, then you might as well do a single process. Strategic placement gives more impact, plus less bleach on the hair. Less bleach on the hair equals healthier hair, which gives you a happy—and returning—client. What classes would you like to teach in the future? I would love to do a brunette class. It doesn't give the same impact on Instagram like a balayage does, but it's a large percentage of our clients. What advice would you give for stylists considering a Passion class? Come with an open mind. George Papanikolas Ted Gibson brings tutelage to stylists with an online learning platform.
