JANUARY 2017 | beautylaunchpad.com | 85 TOP, LEFT: LUIS MURPHY; RIGHT: COURTESY OF UNITE For a crowd of nearly 1,200 salon pros, Kevin.Murphy showcased its particular brand of laid-back Aussie beauty, debuting four 2017 collections during its two-day Super.Natural runway show and education event at the Wynn in Las Vegas. Brand founder and namesake, acclaimed session stylist Kevin Murphy, explains: "The idea behind the show was to off er insights to the audience that look natural but are very cleverly manufactured. To us, 'supernatural' means 'better than natural.'" Murphy and his talented team re-created many looks live on stage to show off the variety of techniques and concepts used before teaching them in detail during the next day's breakout sessions. Murphy described the collections— Super.Natural, Castaway, K.Men and Color.Me—as styles from the 1950s, '60s and '70s seen through a '90s lens. "You don't want to take your inspiration from just one area," Murphy mused to the audience while coiffi ng a model. "Fashion moves in a funny, kind of pulsating way." —ANGIE REIBER BEAUTY BEYOND Stylists of the world, unite! At UNITE's Global Session in San Diego, the corporate team hosted roughly 1,500 artists from salons around the country and as far away as Australia, the UK and South America for the brand's signature weekend of inspiration, trend forecasting, product knowledge and education. The four-day extravaganza saw tutelage and inspiration from the likes of creative director Gary Baker, celebrity stylists Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri, editorial stylist Kevin Ryan and many more members of the UNITE family. "We started Global Session because we wanted our network to experience the creativity of our art directors from around the world," explains founder and CEO Andew Dale. "It's an opportunity for stylists to get inspired and reconnected to their passion. And they learn more about UNITE and what we stand for as a company. Each year we've been fortunate to make the program more dynamic, and we always strive to upgrade what we offer. Global Session is not something UNITE does for money—the money we make goes right back into making the next Global Session bigger and better." —ALYSON OSTERMAN-KERR 1 2 3 4 5 1 UNITE Global Session 2016 is held at the historic Balboa Theatre in San Diego. 2 Attendees get creative for UNITE's Halloween party. 3 Launchpad's Lizzy Sherman and Alyson Osterman-Kerr chat with UNITE founder and CEO Andrew Dale at the cocktail reception. 4 A stylist creates a striking avant- garde look in class. 5 The UNITE team unveils trending men's styles.
