I f you're in a room of 20 people, chances are that at least two of them have been affected by child abuse in some way," says Beth Bewley, Cofounder and CEO of Eufora International. "Yet it is such a diffi cult subject to talk about, many corporations don't get behind the issue. That's one of the reasons my husband [Don] and I decided to involve Eufora with Childhelp more than 12 years ago. We wanted to tackle something that wasn't easy to discuss." Eufora's connection with Childhelp (childhelp.org) sprang from a very personal moment for Bewley. "Don and I had attended a Childhelp event in Los Angeles," she recalls. "At the time, our children were quite young. I remember coming home and looking at my little ones as they slept, and feeling so horrifi ed about what happens to children when they are abused or neglected. My husband and I decided then and there to involve Eufora in supporting Childhelp." An internationally respected nonprofi t, Childhelp's outreach includes 24/7 hotlines, advocacy centers and group homes. Since its inception in 1959, the organization has touched the lives of more than nine million children. The story of Childhelp's beginnings and the two women who have nurtured its growth since 1959 is remarkable, according to Bewley. "I encourage everyone to visit their website to learn more," she says. "Their story will touch your heart." Eufora sponsors two annual major fund-raising events. "During National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April, we rally our nationwide network of Eufora salons to hold cut-a-thons," Bewley explains. Every September 2, the Eufora salons promote their "One Tip, One Child" campaign, with all tips for the day going toward Childhelp. Eufora also encourages salons to organize their own community events and frequently creates special gift sets and products with 100 percent of the profi ts going directly to Childhelp. But Bewley believes that one of the most important ways those in the beauty industry can help is through communication. "By its nature, the beauty industry is nurturing and communicative," she says. "We can make a huge impact in breaking the silence and when we do that, we can help to change lives." 36 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | MAY 2016 Eufora partners with Childhelp to speak up for those who have no voice. —BARBARA BAZALDUA Conversations/Giving Back Break the Silence Eufora's network of stylists work to raise money for Childhelp. www.parodicare.com • Helps reduce callouses • Stimulating & Refreshing Like microdermabrasion for your feet!
