116 | BEAUTY LAUNCHPAD | MAY 2016 News TALKING TO TARRA This month, we checked in with Matrix Artistic Educator Tarra Dean to get the inside scoop on her "Create Your Signature Haircut" Programs of Passion class. For more intel on Programs of Passion, visit mymatrixfamily.com/education/ programsofpassion. Tell us about your class. This class is about learning what it takes to create a signature haircut, specifi c to your client's wants and needs. It is designed just for their head shape, facial features and lifestyle. Your clients will love their haircut because it is designed specifi cally for them. After this program, your clients won't be able to get a haircut from anyone else. What have attendees learned from this class? Attendees have said, "This is the best haircutting class I've ever had." They've learned how to use the right tool for the right job; when, how and why to use square versus round layers; wet- versus dry-cutting; disconnection; body position; the importance of head shape and facial features; nine cutting techniques; how to personalize each haircut; and so much more. What is your favorite part of teaching this class? I love to see the look on students' faces when they have that "aha" moment, when something clicks and they fi nally get it! At the end of the class, when they express how happy they are, I can feel their passion, motivation and excitement about their career—this feeling is exactly why I became an educator. What is the main takeaway you would like students to leave the class with? This is hard to say because there are so many. But I would like them to walk away with a clear understanding of when, where and how to utilize the right cutting technique for clients' specifi c wants and needs, and to build confi dence in cutting skills. Clients will come back to you because they will notice the difference, and you will have your own signature haircut, which leads to a high clientele retention rate and more money. What classes would you like to teach in the future? I love teaching! It is truly my passion, and I teach anything that Matrix sends my way. With that being said, I love teaching all aspects of haircolor and cutting. I would also like to teach a class on how to make more money as a stylist, as well as a class that is not all based on technique—it takes much more than good technique to be a successful stylist! What advice would you give to stylists considering a Passion class? The best thing you can do for yourself and your success is to invest in education. Take every class you can! Shades of Crystal Only the coolest girls, it seems, become Redken models; the impressive lineup includes Suki Waterhouse, Soo Joo Park and Amber Le Bon. It makes sense then that Crystal Renn, a model known for being a boundary breaker, has joined the ranks. Renn will be the face launching new shades of Chromatics Ultra Rich professional haircolor.
